Great article! All this talk about doing only what you love can make one question whether being content with and good at what you are doing, all the while knowing it may not be your passion, means you have 'settled' and are not living up to your potential. I love to cook (most of the time) and feed friends and family, but if I had to do it for a living, I would probably resent it in the end! So, I'm good with where I'm at! Thanks!

Thanks for making these points--I'm going to save this newsletter for the days that I'm feeling frustrated and discouraged about not being an international star. Needed to hear this!

Hi, Laura! Thank you so much for your positive comments. I love Carol Dweck's Mindset model. She talks about fixed v. growth mindset. One of her conclusions that truly surprised me was that academics fell more into the fixed than growth mindset model!

Thanks for sharing this excellent research! I just read today a study that affirms the "failure is the route to success." Carol Dweck's latest work give students one of 2 compliments. Either, "you must be very smart" or "you must have worked very hard." The first group went on to give up easily in subsequent tests (seeking to avoid failure) while the second group significantly outperformed the others in the same subsequent tests. Cheers.

Great post, Hillary! I love writing!!!!! These 8 are great reasons; for me clarity comes from writing out my incoherent ideas and finding the treasure buried therein (at least sometimes there's treasure.) Thanks for the encouragement.
